Breakfast Smoothie

My breakfast today was very green, which I don’t mind of course.

The ingredients you will need are:

1 big hand full of Spinach

1 frozen Banana

I had a 100% Mango and Orange Juice in my fridge so I used it instead of putting in more fruit, but you can use as many fruits as you want.

Just blend everything, and on top I sprinkled Chia and Flax seeds.

It’s very simple I know but I love it.

Ohh and I also had my Matcha tea (on the right in the first picture)

My favorite Super Foods

Being healthy, and a having a healthy lifestyle in general, has become a huge part of my life. I have more energy, I’m happier and I feel much better in general.

So today I wanted to share my favorites Super Foods with you.

I’m not going to go through every single benefit these seeds/powders provide, but the ones that are important to me, and also how I normally use these so called ”Super Foods”.

I think Chia Seeds were the first ones I tried. I remember searching for super foods and Chia seeds were everywhere, they’re amazing for for us, and here are some of their benefits:

A 1 ounce (28 grams) serving of chia seeds contains:

  • Fiber: 11 grams.
  • Protein: 4 grams.
  • Fat: 9 grams (5 of which are Omega-3s).
  • Calcium: 18% of the RDA.
  • Manganese: 30% of the RDA.
  • Magnesium: 30% of the RDA.
  • Phosphorus: 27% of the RDA.
  • They also contain a decent amount of Zinc, Vitamin B3 (Niacin), Potassium, Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) and Vitamin B2.

I like to use Chia seeds in smoothies, I allways put them in at the end because I really like their texture. When I don’t drink smoothies I just throw them on my salad (I’ll be posting a recipe for my favorite Quinoa Salad). I recently also made a strawberry Jam (with no refined sugar, I can share that recipe too) and the Chia seeds were perfect to give that jam like texture.

Flax seeds are full of Fiber, they contain both the soluble and insoluble types. I mostly like to throw them in salads or just sprinkle them on rice, they’re also an amazing substitute of eggs in recipes (just mix some seeds with a bit of water and voila!)

I just bought Hemp seeds a few weeks ago, I like the taste and I heard a lot of good things about them. I like to sprinkle them on fruits and also salads (I sprinkle everything on Salads). They’re full of good fats, and contain more digestible protein than meat, whole eggs, cheese, human milk, cows milk or any other high protein food. They are also rich in Vitamin E, which is amazing for your skin.

Finally Matcha tea, this is a Japanese green tea powder, usually used in tea ceremonies. This is my morning coffee (I actually love coffee but in Germany the coffee is completly different from the coffee in Portugal, and I’m still not used to it), I’m gonna leave some of the benefits here because I don’t really hear that much about Matcha:

Among its many health benefits, Matcha..

  • Is packed with antioxidants including the powerful EGCg
  • Boosts metabolism and burns calories
  • Detoxifies effectively and naturally
  • Calms the mind and relaxes the body
  • Is rich in fiber, chlorophyll and vitamins
  • Enhances mood and aids in concentration
  • Provides vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc and magnesium
  • Lowers cholesterol and blood sugar

To drink Matcha tea, you just have to boil a bit of water, add about 1 teaspoon of Matcha powder and mix it very well, that’s it!

These are my favorites seeds and powders. The next Super Food that I really want to try is Maca powder, I heard it’s really good to regulate the female Hormones, which is always a good thing :p

Creamy Vegan Avocado Pesto

I love cooking, and specially healthy vegan recipes, and today I will share my pesto recipe.

It’s vegan, which means this recipe doesn’t have Parmesan cheese (which is usually the only non vegan ingredient). It contains only natural and good fats from the avocado.

Let’s start!

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • 1/3 of a cup of Pine nuts, 50 grams (if you’re allergic you can use other nuts, like walnuts, or just leave them out)
  • 1 big handful of fresh Basil leaves, 30g
  • 1 or 2 cloves of Garlic, depending on their size
  • Fresh Juice of 1 Lemon
  • Avocado
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

Now it’s really easy!

Tear all the Basil leaves from the stem, peel the garlic and juice the whole lemon.

In a food processor or blender mix all ingredients but the avocado and blend. When in the right consistency add the avocado (this will replace the oil) and blend again, finally add salt and pepper to taste. I usually leave the avocado until the end just to make sure the rest blends really well.

I normally eat this pesto with wholegrain Spelt Pasta, because my boyfriend is Gluten intolerant. I also like to add some fresh chopped tomatoes on top. Enjoy!

My Travel Essentials

completo mala2

I love to travel, but unfortunately I don’t do it as much as I would like. Like I said, I live in Germany but I’ve lived most of my life in Portugal, my family is there and so is my hearth. Because of that I like to go there whenever it’s possible.
The flight between Germany and Portugal is quite short, about 3 hour. Usually I travel during the day, I don’t fall asleep, so I need something to entertain myself.

Since I got my iPad Mini I can’t go any where without it. I always make sure that it’s completely charged because I still don’t have a portable charger (it’s on my list). During the flight I don’t have internet access, so I use it to play games (the ones I never play but when you’re bored anything is good), to read (I use the iBooks app, it’s very easy to use and I love the way the pages turn!) I also love to watch movies, so sometimes I like to download something before the flight so I can watch it.

Of course we can’t forget our Phone, which I mostly use to listen to music.
To go with my iPad and Phone I always bring headphones (I don’t want to be that annoying person sharing my music with the entire plain). Usually I prefer the normal apple ones, but I recently pierced my tragus so for now I can’t use inner ear headphones.

I use contact lenses on a daily basis, but when I’m at home or in this case, in a flight, I much prefer to wear my glasses so my eyes don’t get dry.
My favorite accessory are my sunglasses. It was very hard to find sunglasses that fit me, because my face is quite small and thin I always look like a child using her mothers glasses. I love these ones, they have this vintage/John Lennon vibe witch I love.

I usually don’t wear that much makeup, I like to go pretty simple, but in my bag I always need to have a lip balm, and Carmex is my absolute favorite. In my bag I also like to carry a hand cream (this one is just a cheap one from Lidl, but it smells really nice).

The last thing you want to forget is your wallet with your passport or ID, and of course, a little snack for the way!

To carry all this I have my favorite bag, it looks small, but everything fits perfectly!

With Love,
